National Air Mail

Pintura Digital Alusiva ao Correio Aéreo Nacional

Painting made to honor the National Air Mail

The National Air Mail (CAN) is a Brazilian military postal service started in 1931. Its purpose is to integrate the country’s several regions and enable government action in hard-to-reach communities, playing a relevant social role. It also acts as an instrument of integration among South American countries. It is an exclusive competence of the federal government and is maintained by the Brazilian Air Force through COMGAR (General Command of Air Operations).
Originally named Military Air Postal Service, it was soon renamed Military Air Mail. With the creation of the Ministry of Aeronautics in 1941, the Military Air Mail (maintained by the Brazilian Army) and the Naval Air Mail (maintained by the Brazilian Navy) were united, forming the CAN.
