Born in Rio de Janeiro, artist and graphic designer Marcelo Azzeva graduated in Drawing from the Air Force Specialists School (EEAR), and taught Artistic Drawing in the Soldier Specialization Course at the Regional Engineering Service of the former Third Regional Air Command (COMAR III), from 1994 to 1998.
He won two national awards in design and creation: first place in the cultural contest for the 50th anniversary mark of the Aeronautics Sports Commission, and first place in the cultural contest for the 75th anniversary mark of the Central Aeronautics Hospital (HCA), both in 2017.
He worked as designer, artist and curator of the Ala 11 Historical Hall (2018–2019), also took part in organizing the Historical Hall of the former Fifth Air Force (2010), and was responsible for the graphic project of the Brazilian Air Force Symphony Concert of 2018 at the Theatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro. His works are exhibited at the FAB Transport Historical Hall. He is the author of many emblems and artistic designs used by the Force.
It was precisely because of his extensive résumé that the serviceman, along with other artists, was accepted into the Brazilian Academy of Fine Arts. He tells that he learned to draw by copying comic-book heroes. The wish to join the FAB grew stronger when he found out there was a drawing course at EEAR. “I have always loved the arts, especially drawing. The desire to join the Air Force came from my father’s influence [an Aircraft Specialist in the Aeronautics]. After that, becoming a FAB draughtsman became my dream,” he says.
He studied drawing at the Air Force Specialists School, where he learned topographic drawing, mechanical drawing, basic drawing, lettering, architectural drawing, freehand drawing, geometric drawing, installations drawing, ink drawing, canvas painting, among others,” he recalls.
He was head of the Drawing Section at the former Belém Air Base. He pioneered, at the Air Force Engineering Service, the use of computer graphics resources in engineering projects. He taught freehand drawing. He was a designer at the Fifth Air Force and ended his military career at the historic Galeão Air Base.
