It was a great pride and honor to speak on behalf of the new academics.
Induction speech at the Brazilian Academy of Fine Arts.
“Madam President of the Brazilian Academy of Fine Arts; authorities present; Ladies and Gentlemen Confreres; ladies and gentlemen.
First of all, I ask permission to speak on behalf of the new academics, new companions, all with a long journey in favor of Brazilian art and its branches. Today we share the joy and satisfaction of becoming immortals at the Brazilian Academy of Fine Arts.
Our sincere thanks to the President of ABBA, Mrs. Vera Gonzalez. We also thank the entire Board. We are deeply grateful for the vote of confidence and for having been granted such a noble honor, whether occupying one of the chairs or as an honoris–causa.
We reiterate our commitment to continue valuing and promoting Brazilian art wherever we are, now with the credential of legitimate representatives. We came to reap and to sow. Therefore, to the Ladies and Gentlemen Confreres, we promise a fraternal coexistence within the highest spirit of respect and admiration.
It is from the French writer Marcel Proust the phrase: “We must never be afraid to go too far, for truth always lies further on.”
With this thought, and as we are received in this illustrious house, we declare that we will not be afraid to go further and to carry the name of the Brazilian Academy of Fine Arts with us. We place ourselves at its disposal to contribute, humbly but with great zeal, to its greatness. Honoring our medallion with respect, devotion and fidelity.
Marcelo Azzeva”
